Monday was opening day at the new Kroc Center near the Liberty Bowl stadium and Tiger Lane. It is one of only 27 to be built nationwide and the only one built by the Kroc Foundation in the entire Mid-South.
"The big idea of this center is that we exist to bring the community together. All Kroc centers address four different areas of what it means to flourish as a human being: the arts, recreation, worship and education," explains Jonathan Rich, a Captain with the Salvation Army.
All you have to do to join is show up between 8 AM and 8 PM through Saturday. Bring an I.D. and fill out an application. This week, registration is free.
"For Mid-towners there was not anything really close. There was Downtown and East Memphis, so this is great," says new member Laura Schwarz.
New member Tera Proctor adds, "I can walk here as well as learn different things, science, music for my son and for myself. I like all the latest equipment. It's going to work out"
It is all there and then some. They have an aquatics water park with upcoming scuba lessons for the kids, indoor soccer and basketball facilities.
At the Kroc Performing Arts Center they have their own state of the art theatre complete with curtains, lights and sound.
So, head to the center and take advantage of the generosity of not only the Kroc family, but the good people of the Mid-South who wanted everyone to have a better quality life.
For individuals, membership is only $30 a month or $360 for a year. For a household up to 4 people, it's only $600 for a year or $50 dollars per month.
