HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Southern Mississippi has 21 victories and a decent RPI. Now the Golden Eagles need a head-turning win that could make their postseason resume more impressive come NCAA tournament time.
There's one more chance to get it when Southern Miss (21-6, 10-2 Conference USA) travels to face No. 21 Memphis (23-3, 12-0) on Saturday.
It's undeniably a difficult task. Though the series has consistently featured close games, Memphis almost always comes out of top. The Tigers have won 19 of the past 20 in the series, including the past 12 played in Memphis.
The Tigers are on a 17-game winning streak in their final season in Conference USA. They join the Big East next year.
Memphis beat Southern Miss 89-76 when the teams met in Hattiesburg, Miss., earlier this season.
