Robin Sax spoke with a decorated Los Angeles police officer about Christopher Dorner and his problems with the LAPD.
Officer Paul Waymire told me that he remembered a conversation with a group of officers back in between 2006 and 2008...they were talking about an officer who had reported his training officer..for using excessive force.
The Chris Dorner case has given rise to the question---is
there truth to what he said in his manifesto. Is the LAPD a place where
racism, retaliation, corruption, and a Code of Silence exist? It goes
without saying but I will say it again---no matter how "right" Dorner may have
been in his allegations there is NOTHING right or even close to it that would
justify killing anybody, especially innocent people.
Following my admission that there were aspects to Dorner's
words that rang true to me, I have been flooded with calls, emails, and tweets,
texts from officers who identify with the rage, hurt, and disappointment with
LAPD. I have received calls from both current and former officers who
seem to echo a similar sentiment--- "I love being a cop. I love my
job. I hate what happens within." Many officers have shared that
they were prepared for the "bad guys" on the street but they never expected
that their jobs would include dealing with the bad guys within.
Tonight on True Crime Specials, Phil Shuman and I begin to
look at the LAPD in light of the Dorner case. We have begun to peel back
the onion and examine the claims that Dorner makes. We look at his case
as well as the cases of other officers who are brave enough to come forward and
share their stories. Keep in mind tonight we are airing only a 30
minute special. I still have a bucket full of emails, interviews,
letters, and calls with many more stories to tell. If I
were a betting woman I would say this is just the beginning of many more
stories/cases to share.
