ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WJBK) -

A thief had no idea a camera was pointed right at him.

Tuesday morning, he forced his way in through the side door of a house on Frazho Street in St. Clair Shores.  Wearing black gloves, he checked out the house first to make sure he was there alone.  He opened a dresser door and hit the jackpot -- a hundred dollars in cash and a ton of jewelry.  He emptied everything into a plastic bag and slipped out as quietly as he came in, but not before looking smack-dab at the camera.

"I guess you got to be on your toes nowadays," said a man, who didn't want to give his name.

He told me there have been several area break-ins during the past few weeks.  Now the entire neighborhood is on the lookout.

"Everybody on the block's been notified," he explained.  "Most of the neighbors have been here 20, 30 years, so now we're really keeping an eye out on everything and anything suspicious we're calling the cops right away."

St. Clair Shores detectives are hoping someone recognizes the man in the surveillance video so people on Frazho Street can sleep a little easier.
