ALLENTOWN, Pa. -
Investigators with the Allentown Police Department and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened Thursday.
A man who police say was armed with a machete was shot and killed by officers around 11:30 a.m., investigators said.
The shooting happened at the intersection of North Howard and Oak Streets after police received a call about someone walking around the area suspected of carrying a knife.
Investigators have not said what prompted officers to shoot the man.
The Lehigh County Coroner's Office in a statement said the man was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning. Police have not released the identity of the man.
