NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The NYPD responded Thursday to reports of an attempted abduction of a girl outside P.S. 33 in the Fordham section of the Bronx.

The 8-year-old told the principal a man tried to kidnap her near the entrance to the school Thursday morning, according to the Department of Education.

The girl said she ran away from the man and into the school on Jerome Ave. where she alerted the principal.

The third grade child's parent was contacted.

Police were searching for a suspect.
