Authorities made an arrest Tuesday in connection to the murder of a 92-year-old East Point man. Julius Dewberry was found dead in his home on Jefferson Avenue last week, and police say Christopher D. Roberts-- who sometimes did odd jobs for Dewberry has been charged in the case.
Dewberry died of blunt force trauma, authorities say. According to the incident report, authorities were initially called to the home for a welfare check. A cousin visiting Dewberry found him unresponsive and lying on the couch.
Authorities say Roberts is charged with murder, burglary and robbery. They say he occasionally did odd jobs for Dewberry.
Dewberry's wife had a stroke in 2011. Their daughter came down from New Jersey to bring her mother to a nursing home up north. She tried to get her father to go as well but he didn't want to leave his home. Just a few weeks ago, she came back down to try to convince her father to go back.
Gaynell Williams, Dewberry's sister-in-law, said that he was a World War II veteran. She visited him once a week, bringing him food, taking him to the store and the doctor. Williams says her family is heartbroken.
