The name of the new unified school system in Memphis and Shelby County is yet to be determined but board member Patrice Robinson wants to involve the community by getting input on a new name for the merged district. "I believe our community needs to be involved in the change we are about to make and I believe a great way to get the community involved and talking about the school district... something on a positive note," said board member Patrice Robinson.
Others say the priority's of the board needs to be on more pressing issues. "We have a lot of issues to address as a board and I think our focus should be on making sure we have a district that's ready for children as opposed to the name of the district," said board member David Pickler.
The board agreed to put the item on next week's agenda.
