Cab Driver Beaten, Robbed By 2 Suspects

Posted: Updated:

Philadelphia Police confirm that five people have been taken in for questioning after receiving numerous tips in connection to a case of a cab driver that was robbed and beaten in Southwest Philadelphia.

Police say the driver was waiting for fares at 69th St Terminal in Upper Darby when he was approached by two men. The two asked to be taken to Island Avenue and Lindbergh Boulevard in Southwest.

The driver took the two men to their requested destination when they told the driver to stop two blocks away. After the driver pulled over, one of the passengers took a belt and put it around the cab driver, choking him. The other suspect went through the drivers pockets and took money and several debit cards.

The suspects took the driver and forced him into the trunk and beat the driver into giving security codes. They then drove the taxi for approximately 20 minutes with the driver inside.

The suspects then told the driver to count to 100 before he got out of the trunk. After he counted, he got out of the trunk and called his dispatch on the robbery before driving back to his base where the police arrived. The driver was taken to the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania where he is currently listed in stable but critical condition.

Police have been looking for the two suspects after surveillance video was released Monday night. If you recognize them, you are asked to call police.
