The homegoing celebration for Bishop Albert E. Reed, the first ordained bishop in the Church of God in Christ, will be Saturday at 1 p.m.
Bishop Reed passed away Monday at the age of 100. He was ordained bishop in 1948 by the church's founder Bishop C H Mason. He pastored COGIC churches in California, Montana, Oklahoma, Florida, Texas and Tennessee.
Memphis legendary Stax soul singer the Rev. Al Green will have remarks during Bishop Reed's homegoing service Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Temple of Deliverance COGIC, 369 G. E. Patterson Ave.
Bishop Reed will be laid to rest on Monday, Feb. 18, at 9 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery.
