Caught On Tape: 12-Year-Old Tries To Steal Rental Cars, Cops Say

UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

Check out this video of a car trying to pull out of a rental car parking lot in Delaware County.

There's something very wrong here. Police say a 12-year-old boy was behind the wheel, trying to steal it.

This video is from last Saturday on Garrett Road in Upper Darby. Cops say the boy hit another car, got out and ran off.

Now, look at video from Sunday, the very next day. Police say you can see that same 12-year-old boy break in through a window at the same Enterprise Rent-a-Car office. He apparently tried to grab some keys.

Little did he know the manager was downstairs and heard him. The boy hears the manager coming and takes off, but the manager chases him.

Police eventually caught the boy and discovered another car at his home that he had allegedly stolen from the lot last Friday.

Officers say the boy may have been working with a 10-year-old, getting an early start on a life of crime.

"if they're out stealing cars...15 years of age," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Investigators are now looking at the 10-year-old friend to see what his involvement might have been.
