SAINT CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WJBK) -
Breanna Dixit was only 22 years old, but her family says she had already accomplished most of her goals. She was smart and beautiful and those who knew her say she would've changed the world.
"I can't bring her back because if I could, I would, but all I can do is remember all the amazing things about her because she was a very, very special person," said Julie Horvath, her mother.
"So confused why this would happen to someone so young and so beautiful with such a bright future ahead of her, and just still in shock that just can't believe it's real," said roommate Elise Conner.
By all accounts, Dixit was one of a kind. She graduated from Western Michigan University less than two months ago and was pursuing her master's in psychology. She had the world at her feet, but tragically her life was cut short.
"I expected to see Bre get married and have babies and it's a tragedy," said aunt Shari Herbert.
Early Sunday morning, Dixit was killed while crossing Michigan Avenue at Emajean. Kalamazoo police say Dixit stepped in front of a truck. She was wearing dark clothing and it was dark outside. The driver just couldn't stop in time. Police say the 19-year-old was not speeding and alcohol was not a factor.
"I'm hoping it was painless and I'm hoping it was very quick because that's all I could hope for," her mother said. "I feel like it's not real. I feel like she's going to come through the door at any minute. I feel like it's a horrible nightmare. I'm going to wake up and she's going to be here."
"You think you're going to talk to her again, text her again or call her again, but it just makes you numb and you don't believe it," said sister Kelly Dixit.
As of now, police tell me the driver will not face any charges.
The family is planning to set up a fund in Dixit's name.
