Local College Students Speak Out On Dangers Of Binge Drinking

PHILADELPHIA -

Throwing back shots, letting loose and getting wild -- it's a portrait of what's happening in American as more and more teen girls and young women are binge drinking.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in five teenage girls binge drinks, and one in eight women are under the age of 24.

The CDC defines binge drinking for women as having more than four drinks at one time. On average, drinkers are doing it three times a month.

Local college students we spoke to believe those numbers are low.

"I would be surprised that four is considered binge drinking," one student told FOX 29. "I'm thinking, literally like six or seven to 10.

Alcohol kills 23,000 young women every year.
