The smell of gas near the SEPTA stop at Fern Rock in north Philadelphia stopped trains for hours Wednesday morning, stranding commuters from Bucks and Montgomery counties and even in New Jersey.

The cause of the leak was still under investigation as of Wednesday evening.

SEPTA officials did their best to calm frustrated commuters at a packed Jenkintown station impacted by the delays. The station funnels commuters from the West Trenton, Warminster and Lansdale-Doylestown Regional Rail lines into Center City.

By noon, SEPTA's Regional Rail lines returned to service, but about 30 minutes behind schedule.

By the Wednesday evening rush hour, trains were running on time.

SEPTA says no one was hurt during the morning gas leak.
