In January when the freezing rain caused countless accidents on Mid-South roads, one driver lost control on Arlington-Collerville Road.
The next thing Kathy Darnall knew was that she was trapped upside down inside her car.
She needed more than just help. She needed a hero.
Arlington High School senior Walker Pitts was her hero. The 18-year-old was driving with his friend on his way to school.
In the wake of his heroic act, his story caught the attention of Memphis City Councilman Harold Collins, who convinced his colleagues to honor him.
Tuesday evening, city council presented Walker and his mother with a commemorative pin and a resolution in his honor.
