Drivers in one part of downtown Phoenix will no longer have to carry cash or hand over plastic to pay for parking. A new app allows you to pay your fare using your smartphone.
The technology is being made available at CityScape in downtown Phoenix.
Pango is the world's first pay-by-cell phone parking service. Pango chose two cities in the United States to launch the easy pay program -- New York City and Phoenix.
"Technology is advancing. And technology is going to make the downtown experience even greater," says Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton.
To use: go to the website pangousa.com and download the app on your phone. Or you can call a number to get access to it.
CityScape offers more than fifty shops, restaurants and even hotels -- and now parking will not be a concern.
"You come to gate with your phone, you press the gate number, the gate opens, you go to dinner. You're probably going to get your parking comped for an hour, or get a coupon to go to a local business here," said Neil Edwards, Pango President.
"When you leave you hit 'stop parking' on your app. It raises the gate and you leave."
People will be able to use the Pango app to pay for parking and to open and close the garage gates.
The president of Pango says parking will be more attractive for people and CityScape sales will benefit.
