WEST FRESNO, Calif. -- An unlikely man becomes a hero after getting a ride from a man who claimed he was Jesus and what follows is strange to say the least.

It was an absolute bizarre scene at the corner of McKinley and Marks.  A man claiming he's Jesus plows his car into a PG&E worker, pinning him against his truck -- because the worker is black.

The man that was his passenger, who had a hatchet -- and innocent bystanders, came to the rescue.

"He comes down this way and he's like, 'I've come to realize I'm Jesus Christ and I can do anything I f****** want to, and watch this.' And he slams into this f****** guy right there. Pinned him against that f****** truck," said Kai.

Kai, a homeless hitchhiker, was in the passenger seat of the Oldsmobile when this all went down.

Tonya Baker and her daughter, Ginger Miller Parraza, were two of the first to run over and help.

"My mom ran over to the driver to make sure he was ok because we thought maybe it was just an accident or something, and I ran straight to the PG&E man," said Ginger.

This was far from an accident and the ordeal was far from over.

"The guy just went crazy and was trying to pull the guy from the car and the truck. Then he gets in the car and tries to move the car and that. And we weren't going to let him do it," said Tonya.

"If he would've started driving that car around again, man, they're would've been hell a lot of bodies around here," said Kai.

Tonya adds, "He just kept saying he's Jesus Christ and he's going to save all of us, but we have to get... he used the 'N,' word meaning the black people, and he said we need to get them off the Earth."

The PG&E worker was rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries.  He wasn't the only person that the crazy driver went after.

"When he put me in a bear hug and started beating the crap out of me, for what reason? We still don't know," said Tonya.

"These two women are trying to help and he runs up and grabs one of them," said Kai. "A guy that big can snap a woman's neck like a pencil stick. So, I ran up behind him with a hatchet. Smash! Smash! Smash!"

And that's what Tonya says that saved her life.

The driver is described as a man over 6 feet tall, between 300 and 400 pounds.

Kai didn't care.

"That woman was in danger, he just finished, what looked at the time, killing somebody, and if I hadn't done that, he would've killed more people," he said.

As crazy as things got, the best news is, somehow, luckily, none of the injuries suffered were life-threatening and the suspect is right where he belongs -- in police custody.
