It's pretty normal these days when you're apartment hunting to be asked to pay an application fee. Those fees can be pretty steep, and can be at least $50 for every application.

ATLANTA -
The tornado outbreak affecting Adairsville as well as Bartow, Gordon, and Fannin counties this week is a cautionary tale for the rest of Georgia as we head into the time of year that more powerful storms might move into the state.
FOX 5's Doug Evans heard from many residents such as Jaunita Carter following the tornado. They say that they had no warning before the storm hit and that they could not hear local warning sirens.
The National Weather Service says the best way to be warned of potential severe weather is a NOAA Weather Radio further saying that sirens are designed to warn those people who are outdoors at the time of a weather event.
Thankfully, the weather radio has come into the 21st Century with a new app called iMap Weather Radio. The app puts the power of the traditional weather radio on a smart phone.
This app is one of the reasons smart phones are smart. Developer Mark Taylor says the app is designed for anytime and anywhere, even when there is an emergency in the middle of the night.
Taylor says as long as the phone is powered up, it will receive an alert. The app then will sound an alarm and start talking about the emergency.
Traditional weather radios require programming to a specific area whereas the iMap Weather Radio can actually travel and continue to pick up the latest information. The app uses the GPS to location where the phone is and will adjust the alerts as necessary.
The app also lets users keep track of loved ones by allowing up to five different locations to be programmed prompting alerts. This is handy for parents with children away at college.
iMap Weather Radio is a little pricey as far as smart phone apps go going for $9.99, but it is still cheaper than a traditional weather radio. It is available for both Android and Apple devices.
The app features a ten-day forecast, gives active RADAR and will push watches and warnings to mobile devices.
FOX 5 believes it is very important that this app should be available to all smart phone users, so the FOX 5 Storm Team app is available for both Apple and Android devices.
Let us know what you think of these two apps. Leave Doug Evans a comment at facebook.com/DougEvansFOX5. Also, drop him a line if you have an idea for a future Tech Check segment.
