ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta public school system has purged most of the 178 educators named in a state investigation of cheating. But some of those educators remain caught between two agencies.
The state Professional Standards Commission is recommending suspending or revoking the teaching certificates of all 178 named in the state report. Of those, 110 have challenged the sanctions. A commission attorney says it can't proceed with hearings because the Fulton County district attorney is still holding the investigative files of 40 educators, including former superintendent Beverly Hall.
Commission investigator John Grant told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the commission has a responsibility to put on the brakes until all evidence is available to the defense and prosecution. The district attorney declined comment.

A judge has sentenced Michael Parson to the maximum of 35 years in jail for the attempted murder of his wife. On Thursday, Parson was convicted of shooting his wife, Adina, eight times in 2012.
