People were seeing red at Spelman College in Atlanta on Friday for the kickoff of Heart Health Awareness Month.
The metro Atlanta chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority hosted a health fair along with the American Heart Association.
"We want to make sure that the Spelman community is aware of the disparities that affect African Americans. That is understanding your family history, making sure that we are preventing heart disease as well as combating it by early prevention," said Alline Clancy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Students heard advice from doctors and got their blood pressures checked. They also were able to take part in cooking demonstrations on how to eat heart healthy on campus.
There was also a Zumba fitness class where participants worked up a sweat and get their heart rates moving.
Later on Friday, FOX 5's Lisa Rayam was at the Heart Health event sponsored by Phi Phi Omega. The key note speaker was Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, dean of Morehouse School of Medicine.
Star Jones, the former co-host of "The View," will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon on Saturday.
