In a statement issued Thursday evening, Gov. Tom Corbett said he was surprised and concerned after learning of the police investigation involving his son-in-law.
FOX 29 broke the news Thursday on FOX 29 News at 5 p.m. that Corbett's son-in-law, Gerald Gibson, was under investigation after an undercover sting.
Gibson is a narcotics officer in Philadelphia.
"I was surprised and concerned to learn about the allegations regarding my son-in-law Gerald Gibson," Gov. Corbett said in the statement issued Thursday night. "Susan and I continue to give our family our love and support."
Gibson is married to Katie Corbett, the governor's daughter, who works in the Attorney General's Office.
According to police sources, Gibson got caught up in a police sting operation into one of their own. Led by the department's internal affairs "Impact Unit," police sources tell FOX 29 that Gibson was found carrying at least $140 in marked bills used during a staged traffic stop.
When confronted later, sources say Gibson's hands were covered in evidence dust that was used on the money.
No one answered Gibson's Northeast Philadelphia home when we knocked Thursday evening.
The Philadelphia Police Department in a statement said an officer was placed on administrative duty pending the finalization of the investigation, but police would not name the officer.
The officer involved has not been arrested or charged, police said.
Along with the police department, the investigation also included members of the FBI.
