Memphis police say an 8-week-old boy has been found after an Amber Alert was issued for the baby.
Early Thursday morning an Amber Alert was issued by police after the infant was taken from Methodist North Hospital on North Covington Pike just after midnight.
"I woke up to Channel 13, I saw the Amber Alert and I immediately got on the phone," said Shean Bell, the suspect's brother-in-law.
Police said the baby's father, 24-year-old Adrian Delk, Sr., dropped the infant's mother, also 24, off at the hospital with multiple stab wounds. Afterward, police say the father drove away from the hospital with the child, Adrian Delk, Jr.
"Reality set in," said Greg Watson, the victim's father. "She was bleeding and he came and basically dropped her off here."
Methodist North's staff said after dropping off his estranged girlfriend, Delk took the 8-week-old boy, resisting security guards efforts to stop him. He nearly ran over some of the staff in his 2006 silver Nissan Altima.
Genesis Watson, the infant's mother, was transported by air ambulance to The MED in extremely critical condition.
The victim's father spoke with FOX13 News as the search for the infant unfolded. He talked about the strained relationship his daughter has with the suspect.
"They were estranged," Greg Watson said. "They weren't together. She was trying to stay away for him. She's had problems with him in the past."
Memphis police and Shelby County sheriff's deputies then issued the alert and began searching the area. Deputies located the child sometime after 8 a.m., off Sterling Ridge Drive in Cordova. Deputies found the Nissan Altima outside a house and the father and child inside.
Bell said his mother-in-law was inside the Sterling Ridge Drive home and she called police after hearing about the Amber Alert.
"She didn't know anything," Bell said. "Only thing we told her was to turn on the news because we saw the Amber Alert and tried to advise her to call the police."
Delk, Sr., was taken into custody by Memphis police without incident. He was later charged with criminal attempt felony to wit second degree murder, aggravated assault domestic violence, and custodial interference.
Adrian, Jr., was not injured and safe with his grandmother.
After arriving at The MED for treatment, the 24-year-old mother was later listed in non-critical condition.
Delk made his first appearance in Shelby County General Sessions Court on Friday. His bond was set at $500,000. His case was reset until Feb. 15 while he retains an attorney.
