Memphis Police Officer Lee Potts is off the job after being charged with domestic assault, police said.

Police contacted the Shelby County Sheriff on Jan. 24 concerting allegations made against their 53-year-old officer.

The county sheriff advised that Potts, who was off duty at the time of the incident, was reportedly involved in a domestic situation with a female and allegations were made that he struck a 37-year-old female. She suffered visible injuries to her face.

Officer Potts was relieved of duty with pay, per police policy. After further investigation into the incident, the sheriff's department issued a warrant for assault and domestic violence against Officer Potts on Jan. 30.

Potts turned himself into the Shelby County Fugitive Division.
