State Sen. Keith Ingram says he's considering running for the Democratic party's gubernatorial nomination next year after Attorney General Dustin McDaniel abandoned his bid for the state's top office.
Ingram said Tuesday that he's been encouraged by supporters to look at the 2014 governor's race. Ingram said he won't decide on the race until after this year's legislative session.
The freshman senator from West Memphis had been a supporter of McDaniel, who announced Friday he was dropping out of the race due to questions about an admitted extramarital relationship.
Other Democrats are also considering a run for the office, including Highway Commissioner John Burkhalter. Former Lt. Gov. Bill Halter announced Friday he was running. Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson is the only announced Republican candidate.
