Diving Lady sign takes rightful place atop historic hotel

MESA, Ariz. -
It's a big day for some hotel owners in Mesa. They are getting back a vital piece of their building.
The "diving lady" is once again taking her place atop the Starlight Motel near Lindsey and Main. The sign came down a few years ago after a storm ripped it from the roof.
Friday, construction crews worked hard to put the "diving lady" back in place.
The owner of the motel was able to use 90 percent of the original metal to reconstruct the sign.
"The areas that you see, the outside skin is original and everything internal is new. The reason the sign came here, sold to these people, is that they were one of the first hotels coming in on US 60 and they were the first hotel to have a pool, so they wanted to advertise they had a pool so they had a diving lady put in," says Larry Graham of Graham's Neon.
Workers still need to put in the wiring on the diving lady. It'll be lit in a few weeks.
