Hamilton students describe inauguration trip

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 3 dozen valley students are back in town after a quick trip to Washington. They got to see President Obama's inauguration up close.

In the sea of faces to witness President Obama take the oath of office again were these 35 lucky students from Chandler's Hamilton High. It was a once in a lifetime experience they will never forget.

"It was all that I expected and a little bit more. Just the vibe and the feeling of it all, how everybody was there supporting our president and our country," says Jacob Cabrejas, Hamilton High junior.

Patriotic and packed, hundreds of thousands were expected, but a million showed up.

"Chaos, absolute chaos. Families getting separated, police pulling people because they had to start separating sections. It was a miracle we all stayed together," says Zak Ghali, Hamilton High junior.

These high school juniors spent four days in our nation's capital, and their time was captured in photos and pretty emotional experiences.

"I think it was going to the memorials like the Vietnam Memorial and Arlington Cemetery and seeing all the people who died for our country and realizing the impact of that," says Paula Beatty, Hamilton High junior.

"The completely giant-ness of the capital building, it was breathtaking. I've never seen a structure that large in my life," says Nithin Rajkumar, Hamilton High junior.

And for at least one of these students with political ambition, this trip got him thinking – 'what if I'm addressing the nation one day?'

"Thank everyone who got me there. The voters, family, friends," says Ghali.
