A Connecticut businesswoman is taking innovation to a whole new level by transforming guns into fashionable jewelry products.
Jessica Mindich is the CEO and founder of Jewelry for a Cause.
She's creating her own jewelry line made out of melted down illegal guns and shell casings taken off the streets of Newark, N.J.
"The Caliber" collection features steel and brass bracelets, engraved with the serial numbers of the corresponding illegal firearms.
Mindich says the name of her jewelry line is symbolic in more ways than one.
"Instead of fancy gift wrap, you have here the story of what the Caliber Collection is," Mindich said. "And we talk here about the importance of the word 'caliber,' and the caliber, obviously, refers to the caliber of a gun. But it also, more importantly, refers to when you remove illegal guns from the streets of a city, you raise the caliber of the city. And that is really why this collection is named the Caliber Collection."
All proceeds from the Caliber Collection go back to the Newark Police Department to benefit their gun buy-back amnesty program.
Mindich says she hopes the line will soon roll out in various cities across the United States.

Not the prettiest Friday, but we're ready for a great weekend. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. After an early high in the upper sixties, temperatures fall & winds pick up out of the chillier northwest. Right now the Memorial Day Weekend looks sunny and cool with highs in the low to mid 60s on Saturday, in the 70s Sunday & Monday. Cooler temps at the shore.
Have fun!
