Owner Vows To Rebuild After Fire Guts Historic Allentown Restaurant

Posted: Updated:
ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Five firefighters were hurt battling a four-alarm Tuesday morning fire at an historic Allentown restaurant.

The fire broke out around four o'clock this morning at Youell's Oyster House. That's on the 2200 block of Walnut Street.

Two firefighters suffered minor burns, two were hurt when a wall collapsed, and one firefighter fell on ice. They're all expected to be just fine.

The restaurant dates back to the 1800s and the owner is vowing to rebuild.

"We had a wonderful business that we enjoyed working – yeah, it's going to be put back together," he told FOX 29's Steve Keeley.

It's not clear exactly what sparked the fire, but officials say it likely started in the kitchen.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
