A 58-year-old man died after went into cardiac arrest and fell off a hiking trail at Spur Cross Park on Sunday morning.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office say the man was hiking with a group of about 10 people on the Elephant Mountain Trail. They were about two miles in when paramedics say the man suffered cardiac arrest and fell about 5 to 10 feet off the trail. He also struck his head on some rocks on the way down.
The group called 911 and immediately started CPR.
The sheriff's helicopter was able to find the hikers in about 30 minutes. The man was airlifted to a waiting medical helicopter in the parking lot of the trail head where he was pronounced dead.
The man's name hasn't been released yet.
Firefighters were also called to Camelback Mountain's Cholla Trail because they say a 37-year-old woman kept passing out.
The woman was injured because she kept falling down. Firefighters helped her off the mountain with a wheelbarrow.
