CUMBERLAND ISLAND, Ga. (AP) - The National Park Service is seeking suggestions from Georgia residents on a new document intended to guide management and planning on Cumberland Island.
Officials say the upcoming "foundation document" will describe the island park's core mission and significance as well as its more important resources. The National Park Service is ordering all of its 398 parks to draft such a document by its 100th anniversary in 2016.
While the document doesn't dictate any particular actions or binding decisions, officials say it will plan an important role nonetheless.
Cumberland Island superintendent Fred Boyles is inviting the public to a meeting Jan. 28 at the park visitor center in St. Marys.
