President Obama to be privately sworn in for second term Sunday

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

The official Inauguration of President Obama's second term is on Sunday. He will be privately sworn in and then participate in a public ceremony on Monday.

It's the public event and the ones surrounding it that has the nation's capital rocking this weekend.

Inauguration weekend is shifting into high gear. Saturday was the National Day of Service at the National Mall - an event the President made an official inaugural event in 2009 and Saturday night inaugural concerts are front and center.

There was plenty of star power on stage at the Washington Convention Center.

The Kids Inaugural Concert was in honor of military families and was hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden.

"This is what inauguration is all about. It is about celebrating who we are and makes this country so great," said Michelle Obama.

Earlier on a crystal clear day at the National Mall, thousands enjoyed and honored a centerpiece of the President's inaugural weekend, the National Day of Service.

"It's electric you can just feel it in the air. everybody is excited you can feel the anticipation," said Eric Isaac, visiting from California.

"It's a beautiful day and we are excited for President Obama and the First Family and we are looking forward to a wonderful inauguration," said Lisa Kelly, visiting from Ohio.

The First Family rolled up their sleeves too as part of the national service event.

"We are thrilled you are here and we hope you guys are having a great time," said Michelle Obama.

There are thousands working this weekend too.

National Guard troops arrived and will fan out in support of security efforts.

President Obama will be officially sworn in just before noon Sunday as required by the constitution, then up to 900,000 people are expected to jam the National Mall for the public ceremony on Monday.
