TEMPE, Ariz. -

A Tempe teacher is behind bars for allegedly having inappropriate relations with students.

Police say they don't know how many children may have been victimized.

The investigation started when Tempe police got a tip from a parent.

A father found his middle school child chatting on Facebook with 28-year-old George Person, a teacher at Gililland Middle School in Tempe.

That father saw inappropriate messages sent between his daughter and Person.

"He would get to know them at school and from there he would reach out to them on social media," said Mike Pooley, with Tempe Police Department.

On Friday, Tempe police arrested Person. He is accused of having sexual relations with minors.

Person was hired in 2008 as an instructional aide. The superintendent says he worked with special needs children.

Right now police do not know how many victims are out there or how long he has been allegedly molesting children.

"I'm heartbroken any time my children are in danger. I'm heartbroken," said Chris Busch, Tempe Elementary School District Superintendent.

Busch says Person was removed from the middle school.

Busch says all staff is given a background check and fingerprinted before hired.

Prior to working at Gililland Middle School, Person worked for Tempe parks and recreation department.

"What brings me to tomorrow, I have 11,000 students and 2,000 employees and I'm going to be taking good care of them and being proactive to make sure this doesn't happen again," said Busch.

Person was charged with three counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, one count of child molestation, one count of sex abuse and four counts of furnishing harmful items to minors.
