Memphis police say two officers have fatally shot a man in a car.
A news release from the Memphis Police Department says officers responded to a loud music disturbance at an apartment complex Thursday night.
While checking the area, officers found a man found slumped over in a car and went to check on his welfare.
Police say two officers opened fire on the man when he pointed a gun at them.
The man died at the scene. He was identified Friday as 24-year-old Steven Askew.
The two officers involved in the shooting were relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. Their names have not been released.
