"We have vital information for the safety of your children. Please answer your doors."
With those words announced over a loud speaker, police hit the streets Wednesday afternoon trying desperately to find the woman who abducted the 5-year-old girl from her school on Monday. Investigators say they're now looking for a second kidnapping suspect.
"He's described at the time as a mid 30s, light skinned male, possibly a white male," Capt. John Darby of the Special Victims Unit said.
The child told police she walked only a few blocks from her school with her kidnapper, a woman who was caught on tape. She told the kindergartner her name was "Rashida."
Once inside a home nearby, the girl was blindfolded, undressed and given a t-shirt to wear. She was kept under a bed and fed at least once, before she was freed by someone. She ended up in an Upper Darby park, soaking wet in the middle of the night.
"Suffice to say this little girl suffered....conditions no child should endure," Darby explained.
Police recruits fanned out in a grid around Bryant Elementary School Wednesday, going block by block looking for witnesses, clues and surveillance video that could help them find where the girl was held. They also took the child from her South Philadelphia home to help in the search.
"We take the victim back out and have them go through the route that was taken, if they can recall," Darby added.
The family did not speak with the media Wednesday, police say they are cooperating fully. Investigators will not say if she was physically or sexually assaulted.
"The community should be outraged. We're asking them to focus that on these two persons that we've described," Darby said.
There are still two rewards offered in this case. A $5,000 reward was put up by the Fraternal Order of Police for an arrest in the case and another $5,000 from the Citizens Crime Commission for an arrest and conviction.
