Wharton: Bass Pro Pyramid to open in December

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

The Pyramid's transformation into a Bass Pro Shop is on track Memphis Mayor A C Wharton said, and that it will open in December.

The mayor met with store founder Johnny Morris and his wife this week.

Not only is the project on schedule, but the mayor said that Morris' vision of the project is expanding. Mayor Wharton said there were some exiting new details revealed at the Monday meeting, but the details were not revealed.

The connection of the store and the Mississippi riverfront is emerging as a main theme.

"The themes that will be marine-based," Mayor Wharton said. "what we're trying to do with the trails and everything, with the bike lanes across the river, there is just so much going on. This was just an opportunity to revisit the dream we have and assure each other we're still in it, going all the way."

Bass Pro will soon take over construction on the structure, located in the Pinch District at the edge of Mud Island, but said a date for that is not set yet.
