Border Patrol agents seized 4,585 pounds of abandoned marijuana in three separate incidents Monday.
Agents patrolling near Why, Ariz. discovered an abandoned Chevy Suburban loaded with 85 bundles of pot. The drugs weighed 1,724 pounds, with an estimated value of $862,000.
Later Monday, agents followed some vehicle tracks heading off road. They followed the tracks to a wash and discovered a Chevy Tahoe full of 66 bundles of marijuana -- weighing 1,340 pounds and valued at $670,000.
Then agents working near Pia Oik village spotted another Chevy Tahoe concealed in dense brush. They found 76 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,521 pounds and worth $760,500.
The vehicles and narcotics were taken to the Border Patrol station in Ajo and will be turned over to the DEA.
No drug smugglers were located. They often leave behind their contraband if they are in danger of being apprehended.
