LAKELAND, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A 70-year-old woman died in a house fire late Monday evening in Lakeland, Tenn., a Shelby County spokesman said.

The house fire occurred Monday evening just after 10 p.m. in the 9200 block of Curling Pond. Firefighters from several county departments knocked down the fire in about 15 minutes.

Smoke was initially showing at the rear and to the side of the house. Firefighters mounted an offensive attack through the front of the home in an effort to push the fire out through the back, while executing a search pattern in their attempt to locate anyone who might be in the home.

A lone victim was found by firefighters at the front of the home. THe victim was identified as Barbara Clark, the homeowner, the county spokesman said.

The structure suffered moderate to heavy damage and there were no injuries to emergency crews.

The fire remains under investigation.
