ATLANTA (AP) - Emory University officials have announced the school has raised $1.69 billion during a 7-year fundraising effort.
University officials Monday said nearly 150,000 people contributed to Campaign Emory, a fundraiser which is set to bolster scholarship offerings, academic programs and support programs for students and staff, among other things.
University President James Wagner says the money will also help boost the school's endowment. Elaine Justice, a university spokeswoman, says $400 million will be used to create 351 new endowments with specific uses.
Wagner says the money will not impact proposed cuts to certain academic programs that were announced in September and are set to unfold over several years.
Despite launching Campaign Emory in a time of economic uncertainty, officials say the campaign was the school's most ambitious and successful fundraising effort.
