Glendale Police have arrested three people for first degree murder and armed robbery in connection to a drug deal gone bad early Saturday morning.
Police say four suspects, 19-year-old Josh Rasmussen, 19-year-old Justin Whitley and 21-year-old Justin Drennan and a 17-year-old male, planned to rob another 17-year-old of money and drugs during a drug deal. They met about midnight Saturday in the area of 6400 W. Behrend in Glendale.
During the drug deal, the 17-year-old male pointed a BB gun at the 17-year-old who was supplying the drugs. In return, the second teen displayed a handgun and shot the other teen – in what appears to be self-defense. That teen later died at a hospital.
Rasmussen, Whitley and Drennan were taken into custody. They are facing murder charges because a murder occurred during the commission of a felony, even though they didn't pull the trigger. Their fourth accomplice is deceased.
The 17-year-old shooter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released to his parents. Charges will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for 2nd degree murder and drug-related counts.
At this point, Glendale Police are not releasing the names of the juveniles involved.
