LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. -

Hospitals across the country and in our area have seen a significant increase in patients entering the emergency room, with some hospitals forced to turn away ambulances because the demand is so high.

Health officials say the flu is now widespread in more than 490 states across the country.

In Pennsylvania, a Lehigh Valley Health Network spokesperson confirms to FOX 29 an infant from Lehigh County died over the weekend of the flu, one of 22 deaths across the state.

In other areas, Boston residents are now under a health emergency and in Chicago, hospitals have had to turn away ambulances.

The increase in flu cases comes as we are still weeks away from the peak of flu season.

Doctor say it's not too late to get your flu shot.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
