PHILADELPHIA -
A Philadelphia man pleaded guilty Wednesday to third-degree murder and was sentenced to 17 1/2 to 35 years in prison after the death of a 5-month-old baby boy.
Aaron Pace, 36, pleaded guilty to rubbing Drano on the child, causing chemical burns, back in 2010. Investigators say the boy suffered for five days before he died.
Pace admitted that he did so while babysitting because the baby was fussing in the bath.
FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito reports the court hearing was heated and emotional at times as the families of the victim and the defendant have known each other for several years.
The boy, Suliaman Orrell Kirkland, would have been nearly 5-years-old if he were alive today.
Prosecutors say the defendant was never forthcoming about the injuries the boy suffered when he was treated for the burns.
