NOVI, Mich. (WJBK) -- When you hear of a shooting in a suburb like Novi, it gets your attention because it is not the norm, but it happened on New Year's Eve around 10:00 p.m.
Novi Police are just now releasing some details, so we went to the scene Friday night to see what else we could find out.
Novi Square Plaza on Pontiac Trial -- it looks like nothing crazy or criminal would go down there, but looks can be deceiving because a few days ago it did.
"There [were] guns involved and then somebody shot one gentleman in the face," said Julian Leavell.
And according to the Novi cops, the fellow who took the bullet floored his vehicle backwards into the building, tearing up the Dollar Tree.
"When I came over, I saw that there was a truck backed into the dollar store," said Sebastian Wilburn.
"We wanted to help out if we could, and we saw a guy standing there. He had a gun in his hand, so I was kind of staring at him wondering what he was going to do. I got kind of scared because I didn't know what was going on."
"He stood there. He didn't run. For some reason, he didn't care what happened to him," Leavell said.
"He put the gun down and crossed his hands and waited for the police to come," Wilburn explained.
Police say a 35-year-old Sterling Heights man was shot and a 30-year-old Wolverine Lake man is the one who pulled the trigger. Investigators say this violence followed a road rage incident between the two.
But one young man who showed up after the fact heard a different story.
"I heard it was a... drug deal gone bad," said Leavell.
Police tell us the victim is going to be okay. Both men did have guns on them and both men do have a license to carry.
This case is not closed yet, so if you know anything at all about what went down, you need to call police.
