A Memphis police officer and two motorists were injured early New Year's morning in a predawn crash.
The 27-year-old police officer is being treated at The MED for critical injures sustained in the two-car crash.
The accident took place just before 2 a.m. on East Shelby Drive and Gill.
According to a police report a 1997 Toyota Camry, driven by Ariel Banks, 25, collided with the police cruiser.
The police officer was traveling east on East Shelby Drive when the Camry collided with the cruiser. The Camry was attempting a left turn onto Gill when the car struck the police cruiser in he drive side rear passenger door. The impact of the collision forced the police cruiser over the curb and struck a tree.
Both cars were heavily damaged.
The unidentified police officer was responding to a suspicious person report at the time of the accident.
Banks was cited by police for making an improper left turn and financial responsibility.
Banks and her passenger, a 17-year-old male, were taken to Methodist University Hospital and treated for non-critical injuries.
