One officer hurt, two cruisers destroyed in New Year's incidents

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

The first night of the New Year brought with it some troubles for the Memphis Police Department.

Two cruisers were destroyed and several officers were injured over the course of the evening.

First, around 2am an officer was involved in a two car accident at the intersection of Gill and E. Shelby.  The officer was taken to The MED where he is listed in critical condition.

The second incident happened around 4am.  Officers were responding to a call in the 1900 block of Hubert in North Memphis. Upon arriving, the officers encountered two suspects. One was detained, the other fought off the responding officers and escaped, using a police cruiser to get away.

Around 5 am, officers responded to a call about a cruiser on fire at the dead end of Montgomery near Snowden.
