Caught on tape: Man robs Redford jewelry store

REDFORD, Mich. (WJBK) -- The search is on for a man who robbed a jewelry store in the middle of the afternoon.

The suspect was caught on surveillance video inside Fantasy Jewelers on the 9300 block of Telegraph Thursday. Video shows the man jumping over the counter, punching the store owner and breaking a glass case before snatching jewelry and running out of the store.

The store owner was treated for his injuries and is expected to fully recover.

Police describe the suspect as a black male in his early 20s, approximately 6' to 6'2" with short black hair, a thin mustache and a small amount of hair on his chin. He was wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and light colored shoes.

Anyone with information on the suspect's identity is asked to call Redford police or Crime Stopper at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
