SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -- Weather Authority Alan Longstreet says a winter storm making its way across the central U.S. will have an impact on the Midwest, including northern lower Michigan.
A number of winter storm watches and warnings are in effect for parts of the lower peninsula, including Grand Traverse, Leelenau and Manistee counties. Longstreet says that's where the majority of accumulation will take place beginning Thursday morning with some area receiving up to 10 inches of snow.
Southeastern Michigan will feel the storm's impact, but mainly in the form of rain. Longstreet after a dry Wednesday, rain will move in during a mild Thursday afternoon. Highs will reach near 50 degrees. A cold front will wrap around behind the storm Thursday night, turning rain into wet snow on Friday. Longstreet says anywhere from a dusting to as many as three inches can be expected in parts north and west of Detroit.
Cooler weather will prevail over the weekend with highs topping out near freezing and lows dipping into the 20s.
