South Philly Rocked By Violent Mob-Style Hit

Posted: Updated:

Fox 29's Dave Schratweiser was on Good Day this morning to talk about the recent violent turn of events in the mob-style hit on a 50-year old man in South Philly.

It all went down at around 3:00 pm Wednesday afternoon in front of Gino DePietro's home.

Di Pietro, who sources say was a convicted drug felon and "made-man", was shot to death in his pick up truck.  He reportedly took 4-5 bullets to the back of his head and neck.  Sources tell Fox 29 that he may have been talking about a murder that happened in 2003.

Several people witnessed the shooting and were promptly questioned by detectives.   Sources tell FOX 29 they took down the license plate of a black vehicle that had raced away from the scene.

Cops ran the tags and the vehicle came back registered to reputed mob soldier Anthony Nicodemo.  The Feds obtained a search warrant and spent hours searching his house.

Nicodemo is now in custody and being questioned by detectives.  They are also looking for another suspect.

This is all going down while Joe Ligambi is on trial.  The prosecution just rested their case yesterday.

Fox 29's Dave Schratweiser will have more on this developing story on the Fox 29 News At 5 & 6.
