Eagles' Patterson Done For Year, Plans Grievance

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The Eagles play tonight without defensive tackle Mike Patterson, who is now on the NFL's reserve non-football injury list, which means he's done for the year.

Patterson is recovering from viral pneumonia.

The Eagles cut his pay in half for the last two weeks.

FOX 29's Howard Eskin reported that, as unfair as it may seem with an illness, it's actually in the players' labor agreement with the NFL and in Patterson's contract that the teams don't have to pay any of his salary.

An Eagles source said it's just protocol.

But Patterson's agent, Peter Schaffer, has plans to file a grievance, calling it petty.

The Eagles needed a spot on the roster to bring up tight end/fullback Emil Igwenagu from the practice squad because Brent Celek is out.

Also out for Thursday night's game against the Cincinnati Bengals are safety Kurt Coleman, running back LeSean McCoy and quarterback Michael Vick.
