Hughes Arkansas is a town plagued by empty store Fronts and Dogs wandering the streets. Cassie Wilson grew up here and remembers better times here.
"It was nice back then, nice, Hughes had jobs and somewhere to go, nice places to eat, it was nice."
Parts of the city are starting to look like a ghost town. Some streets have more unoccupied homes than occupied.
"Well no help coming for one. You know a lot of buildings and stuff damaged and torn down and ain't nobody coming back to try to try to rebuild. No jobs and nothing for our children to do here, just down."
The city has tried tearing down some of the rundown properties, but it's costly. Many of those who own the overgrown lots have moved off.
"They don't, most of them don't live here at all, they don't so I don't know who they belong to." says a man in Hughes who only identifies himself as Melvin. Melvin believes those living in Hughes need to take control and clean the neighborhoods.
There are those who say if something isn't done, the town of Hughes Arkansas is going to slowly disappear from the Arkansas Delta. "Like you look around here at all these abandoned houses, you know, ain't nothing around here, no new jobs, ain't nothing for me to do, we can't even go grocery shopping, ain't nothing here." says a young man named Denzel.
"Sure, it's disappearing and the people too, they are leaving here, because there is nothing to do" says Cassie.
