After a tough week on the field, Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder made a big play in his personal life by asking ESPN reporter Samantha Steele to marry him.
Steele confirmed the engagement to a Sports Illustrated reporter, but there's been no comment from Ponder so far.
It's been a difficult week for Ponder the football player, with some fans even calling for him to be benched -- but it seems he may have had some other things on his mind.
The two have reportedly been dating for four months. A few weeks ago, he credited Steele with helping turn his play around in the game against Detroit.
"I also want to thank my girlfriend because she obviously effects how I play the game," he said.
FOX 9 News spoke with the jeweler who said she sold Ponder the ring at Continental Diamond, which is where specialist Kayla Ness-Witte helped him pick one out of a dozen.
"His is one-of-a-kind," she explained. "We custom designed it for him. She's a lucky girl."
Ness-Witte has sold rings to professional athletes before, and she says Ponder was as excited as every man who comes to buy an engagement ring is.
"Every man who comes through here is a little bit nervous because they've never done this before," she explained. "They want to know they're doing the right thing."
Now, given his recent performance with the team, many fans broke jokes on Twitter when they heard the news -- but now that the proposal jitters are gone, some hope his big score in the land of love will lead to touchdowns.
